Creativity is not owned by the Great Masters, or modern dance teachers. It’s possible and important to be creative in your everyday tasks, especially when you are building a business.
You may not recognise yourself as such a person, but if you are able to devise new ways to carry out tasks, solve problems, bring a fresh perspective to deliver mundane activities then you are able to think differently from others and deliver in ways others can’t.
Thinking creatively frees you of ‘the way it’s always been’ and the fear of failure. Here is a recent example… in the process of planning a creative coffee morning… it was obvious quite quickly that I couldn’t afford the INSANE cost of branded, recyclable cups (throw-aways are very cheap …. another reason why our oceans are full of rubbish) so I needed an alternative solution quickly.
De-gradeable stickers…. Not the cheapest sticker option, by MILES better than the alternative, much cheaper too. It will mean a little extra effort to stick them to the cups provided by my event partner but overall, a great solution that met all my requirements.
We are all winging it. Whether it’s what we have for dinner, how we speak to a shop assistant to help us find what we need or what gift to get a friend for Christmas… and that’s a throwaway term for thinking on our feet. Making quick decisions that meet our needs but don’t need us to compromise too heavily is CREATIVITY.
