In the week that marks World Mental Health Day, here’s a timely bit of news from Shout About Suffolk.
We’re delighted to share the news that Wednesday’s Child, our social enterprise lab business which focuses on mental health support and education around the issue of eating disorders, has received some significant funding.
Debbie Watson, founder of the business, has learned in recent days that she has been successful in securing a grant from East Suffolk Council, enabling her to deliver training in 13 high schools in the local area.
The grant allocation is part of the Exemplar Fund, and will see Wednesday’s Child deliver specialist insight education on the issue of eating disorder recognition, prevention, and treatment pathways.
Schools across the East Suffolk area will receive the training programme between now and September 2020.
Debbie said: “This funding is a huge boost to Wednesday’s Child and gives us a significant opportunity to make traction in our efforts to educate teachers, pupils and parents.
“It comes at a time when we’re also having some great feedback from independent schools about the concept of our schools’ protocol, and we’re being asked to develop unique training processes for a variety of organisations who truly want to understand more about the impact of eating disorders.”
Wednesday’s Child is currently a beneficiary as part of the East of England Co-op token scheme. You can opt to ‘vote’ for Wednesday’s Child in Co-op stores in Woodbridge and Wickham Market.
