2019 was a frenetic, crazy, exhilarating year for all of us involved in Shout About Suffolk.
The idea of creating SAS had only been dreamed up at the end of August 2018 – by January 2019 we were ready for our first Lab members and held our launch party on January 10th.
We are not yet a year old, but feel we have been together for far longer. The excitement of working with young start up businesses is the most rewarding thing the SAS Team have ever done. We have made good friends in our mentors, sponsors and supporters and truly feel part of the Suffolk Business Community.
A community which is thriving and choc-a-block with talent; politically 2019 was not a happy year, and, whatever side of the divide you were on it felt like we were all losers. But, the talent, and business opportunities that are here in Suffolk give us hope that great things can still come from our County.
Two of our Lab Members, Tipll, an augmented reality app for the entertainment industries. And, Dangler an online social media marketplace for the angling community, have raised funding for the launch of their apps. Both business are hugely exciting and we expect big things for them in 2020. Working with Grant Thompson of Tipll and Kane, Daniel and Harry Hughes of Dangler has been a exciting and rewarding journey.
Kachina Clothing opened a pop up shop in Aldeburgh over the Christmas period which has been a great opportunity for founders Robert and Alex Castellani to showcase their ethical surf and skate clothing brand.
Emily and her team at Niche Cocktails have been extremely busy developing their products and branding and we are hugely excited for the launch at the beginning of 2020 – watch this space!
Wednesday’s Child has gone from strength to strength and is providing incredibly important help and support for those living with an eating disorder. Deborah Watson, founder of Wednesday’s Child is doing incredible work within this community and we hope to see her develop her support network even further in the coming year.
Salubrious Sauce has had a busy year devising delicious new products and growing their market presence. We are all totally addicted to the Salubrious Hot Sauce! Jim Fennell – founder of Salubrious made a dream come true at the end of the year by adding Monty – a gorgeous British bulldog puppy to the Salubrious Family! He will be the mascot of the brand, and we are sure you will be seeing much of him in our social media next year!
Halo Oil are growing their customer base everyday and are developing their business; the incredible hard work that goes into collecting and processing used cooking oil is astounding and Louis, Gemma and their team are incredibly dedicated. Watch out for the smart Halo Oil vans travelling around the region early next year.
We have also been working with 2 new exciting fashion brands, Nulla and Cast – more information will be available early in 2020. We are hugely excited by both and can’t wait to share their journey with you soon.
The Hub is also going from strength to strength. We have a steadily growing community of hot-deskers that regularly use The Hub.
There are all sorts of exciting and interesting businesses within The Hub, if you would like to learn more about them please visit our website. The sense of community within The Hub is strong and, the support the members give each other is fantastic to see. So many of the members comment on the difference it is making to their working life to be part of a ‘gang’ rather than sitting alone at the kitchen table!
If you are interested in joining The Hub contact us on 01473 805300.
One of the biggest successes in the eyes of the SAS team has been the community we have built, with both Lab and Hub members and our neighbours and friends at Riduna Park. We hold social events to get everyone together as often as we can, highlights of 2019 must be our Cuban launch party, Halloween fancy dress competition and the closely fought table football league!
We also held film and pizza nights, fundraising activities and a raucous Christmas Party!
Next year we plan to create a whole new calendar of social events and hope to extend some of these out to the local community.
We also found the time during the Summer to mentor a group of incredibly talented young Suffolk artists who wanted to create a collaborative group to showcase their work together, and to create a young community of creative talent in our County. YAIS was born at a fabulous launch party at the Pacitti Centre in Ipswich in August and the gang are going from strength to strength.
We have also been involved in other community projects; we have worked with Nigel Seamen, who founded Combat 2 Coffee to help fellow veterans diagnosed with PTSD. His work is so important within the ex-forces community – watch out for his coffee vans around the region.
This Christmas we lent our support and help to local businessman Jeremy Buitenhuis who paid for and arranged a Christmas Day lunch at his local pub for those who faced Christmas alone. It was a great success and those involved had a fantastic day at the Bakers Arms in Harkstead.
At Shout About Suffolk we care about our local community and plan to work with more local charities and projects during 2020. Keep an eye on our social media for news.
Finally, we would like to thank everyone who has helped make SAS the vibrant exciting place it is – our sponsors, mentors, suppliers, members and friends – Thank you, without your support SAS would not exist.
